Nature's Gold

Where Kerala's forests meet sacred craft

The Festive Spirit in Gold

The Palakka Mala is one of the most distinctive ornaments in Kerala's jewellery tradition. Its name derives from "palakka," meaning leaf in Malayalam, and the necklace features a series of leaf-shaped pendants set with green stones, traditionally emeralds or their glass equivalents. The green represents the lush tropical forests of Kerala, and the gold represents the earth's generosity. This necklace has been part of the traditional Hindu Nair and Namboothiri bridal trousseau for centuries, and it remains one of the most sought-after pieces in contemporary Kerala weddings. Each leaf is individually cast using the lost-wax process, then set by hand with green stones that are ground and polished to fit the exact contour of the gold.
